babel

this movie was really interesting to me. at times, i was confused with all of the scene changes. however, i realized all of the different scenes were connected in little ways. For example, the scene with the chicken blood that transited into the scene with human blood. also there was a good contrast in sound. The scene with the deaf girl stood out the most to me. I know she was different than everyone because she was a deaf girl in a hearing world. At times, i thought she was so weird, yet at times i felt so sad for her. My dad is deaf and i know how things can be frustrating for him. It is not unusual for deaf people to be treated poorly. That is the reason why i sympathized with her. It must have been hard to be out of her world and be put in the hearing world, where she is made fun of. on top of that, her mothers death must have been very traumatic. the stories that took place in this movie where all very different, but they are all collected. i think the connection between all of these scenes is the characters are all taken out of their own secure world. they are put into new situations that are uncomfortable to them. For example, the deaf girl is in the hearing world and the American husband and wife are in the desert. I think the story of the husband and wife show how out of their world they are. Or at least how out of place the wife was. she was so anti everything and did not want to try anything. she just wanted to go back to her own country. she did not even try to accept the different culture that surrounded her. She just had an idea of their culture and did not try to understand it. i thought it was interesting that as soon as the wife was shot, everyone thought it was a terrorist attack. That little boy was most definitely not a terrorist. i thought the scene with brad Pitt and the Moroccan man was very touching. brad Pitt offered the man money for helping out him and his wife, but the man would not except it. that was one of the scenes where there were no cultural differences or stereotypes getting in the way. it was just someone who was being very kind, from the bottom of their heart. This movie was different yet similar to crash, they both showed the confusion that is created by stereotyping and not understanding or accepting different cultures. i like how crash and babel expose all of the stereotypes the world has. However, it is interesting how they approach doing so in different ways.
